New technique developed!

This new technique involves replacing heart valves without open-heart surgery, using a catheter-based approach similar to that used for inserting a stent.

Not all types of valve replacements can be done this way though, and at present only a few centres in the world are using it, on selected patients. Heart surgeons need special training to use this method and equipment. Though the results of this technique are improving, conventional valve replacement surgery is still the safer option for now.
